Hi guys and welcome back!
Today we talk (or draw!) the fox, because in Japan these animals are incredibly popular, and a mixture of charm and danger – and of course power!
The fox in japanese tradition
The kitsune fox
狐, キツネ
Foxes are a main character in the japanese folklore and legends, and I tend to divide them in two main figures: the first one, is the one called kitsune, which are often border creatures, half way between the spirit and the human world, and that might cause harm to the living.
Inari the fox god
稲荷大神
On the other hand, there is the popular and beloved kami Inari, who is traditionally associated with rice, agricolture and therefore wealth and fortune: foxes are considered to be its messangers and are therefore considered sacred animals that convey the fortune of the kami.
